Atlantic Ford Smith CSR -1971

The accompanying photos to the right were from the early log books handed over to me and show the car in Evergreen Trail, Colorado.

The clipping below came from an article that appeared in The COURIER-NEWS on Thursday, 21st October, 1971 that featured Ford M. "Bud" Smith and the Atlantic CSR.

"...And all this for nothing more than trophies, for Smith is running the SCCA's ostensibly "amateur" races although a number of drivers like Bob Tullius and Bob Sharp have sponsors. "

Watkins Glen July 1971 - the car manages two second place finishes. Average speed 90mph on the old  2.4-mile Glen circuit. Top speed 135mph at 9,600rpm in the 1.3-litre Alfa Veloce engine.

Pocono August 1971 - the car takes a first in class and seventh overall, having started in 16th place.

"....As for building another Atlantic, Smith very hesitantly say he might if someone was interested and if he could farm out most of the metal work to machine shops."
